"QUESTIONS YOU SHOULD ASK BEFORE YOU BUY"
If you are currently
in the market for a new air conditioning and/or heating system, chances are this is the first time that you've had to make
this very important decision. Economy Air Conditioning & Heating would like to take this opportunity to help you make the best possible decision for your current installation
needs.
First, Economy Air Conditioning & Heating encourages every homeowner to "shop around" before they buy.
Below is a list of questions and answers which you should know before you "shop around."
1. What size of unit do you have?
A very basic "rule of thumb" used in the air conditioning and heating industry when sizing a system is 400 to 450 square feet
per ton. However, there are variables which can affect this rule, i.e., two story homes, western exposure, insulation,
etc. Based upon the size of your current system as well as the factors listed above, our qualified personnel can help
you to determine the proper size system for your heating and cooling needs.
2. What kind of unit do you currently have?
- If your unit is located on the roof and is all electric, you have
a rooftop package heatpump.
- If your unit is located on the roof and uses gas to heat with, you
have a rooftop gas pac.
- If your condensing unit is located on the ground, is all electric
and has an electric air handler in either the attic or a closet, it is probably a split system heatpump.
- If your condensing unit is located on the ground, is all electric
and has a gas furnace in either the attic of a closet, it is a split gas system.
- You may also have a cooling only system which could be located either
on the ground or the roof and is often matched with a gas furnace in the closet.
No matter what kind of system you have, Economy Air Conditioning &
Heating can help you to decide which system will
best suit your needs.
3. What energy efficiency do you want? Every manufacturer, whether it is the highest quality system made or
the poorest quality system made, can offer you the same energy efficiency. All systems, no matter who makes them, start
at a 13 SEER energy efficiency level and go up from there. Of course, the higher the efficiency level, the more it will
save you on your utilities (please refer to the energy efficiency page of our website to learn more about the utility
savings). However, the higher the efficiency
level also means the more the unit will cost. During the hottest time of the summer, energy efficiency levels can drop.
However, American Standard/Trane maintains the highest energy efficiency level than any other manufacturer.
4. What quality of unit are you looking for?
Basically, there are fourteen different units currently sold in Arizona. Of the fourteen, American Standard
was rated as number one by Consumer Digest/Consumer Reports. In addition, based upon our twenty-five years of installing
and repairing air conditioning and heating systems, it is our professional opinion that the American Standard equipment is
the highest quality unit sold today. What most people don't understand or realize, however, is that American Standard
and Trane are the exact same system. In fact, American Standard owns Trane and both systems have the same model numbers.
The only difference between American Standard and Trane is the local distributor here in Arizona. The distributor for American
Standard is the oldest and largest distributor in the state of Arizona, with over 13 locations to better serve their dealers.
In addition, they are open on weekends which allows a dealer to better service their customers.
We also install other quality name brand units at a very competitive
price. Whatever you budget may be, Economy Air Conditioning & Heating is here to help you select the best quality system that fits your budget.
5. What company should I choose to install my new system? We encourage every homeowner to pick a company who can provide them with the highest
quality installation. One of the ways to determine the quality of a company is to check with the Better Business
Bureau as well as the Registrar of Contractors. Both of these organizations monitor and/or regulate the quality
of work that a company performs. Also make sure that the company is licensed, bonded and insured. If a unit is
not installed properly, it will not work properly.
Economy Air Conditioning & Heating is
licensed, bonded and insured and is in excellent standing with the Better Business Bureau as well as the Registrar of Contractors.
In addition, our technicians are certified and trained through Arizona Public Service and the Arizona Heat Pump Council.
You can rest assured that our installations are of the highest quality, we GUARANTEE it!
6. What price should I expect to pay for a new unit? Once you have decided what kind of unit you have, what quality of unit you want, what energy
efficiency level you need and what kind of standing the company has with the various organizations, you are now in the position
to compare "apples-to-apples." We encourage you to schedule appointments with at least three qualified companies to
give you a price on the unit you need. Choose the company that you are the most comfortable with. Remember
the company you choose will be the company you should be able to count on to service any of your future air conditioning and/or
heating needs. Economy Air Conditioning & Heating believes a satisfied customer is a lifetime customer!
